Darkness Shining Wild: An Intimate Walk through the Labyrinth of Madness & Mysticism
An Interview with Robert Masters
Robert Augustus Masters, Ph.D. is the author of 11 books (including Darkness Shining Wild: An Odyssey into the Heart of Hell and Beyond, Transformation Through Intimacy and Spiritual Bypassing), a relationship expert and spiritual teacher, and a master psychotherapist (and trainer of psychotherapists) with a doctorate in Psychology.
This dialogue is Part One of a special trilogy series entitled, Holy Irreverence: Exploring the Dark Side of the Sacred. It follows up on a blog style article I wrote entitled, My Journey through Madness and Mysticism, where I offered an intimate account of my own precarious path through the layered realms of madness and mysticism.
In this dialogue, Robert and I engage an intimate discussion on both of our breakdowns into darkness, insanity and mystical states. We explore the differences between psychosis and mystical opening, as well as shining a light on other blind spots and pitfalls that can occur along the spiritual journey.
We will also discuss the important and complex role of the dark in psychological, spiritual and collective development.
Robet’s uniquely integral, intuitive work (developed over the past 33 years) dynamically blends the psychological and physical with the spiritual, emphasizing full-blooded embodiment, authenticity, emotional openness and literacy, deep shadow work, and the development of relational maturity.
At essence, Robert’s life and work is about becoming more intimate with all that we are, in the service of deep healing, awakening, and integration. In all this, he works side-by-side and in very close conjunction with Diane, his wife and partner in all things. You can visit Robert’s websites at: www.robertmasters.com and www.masterscenter.net.
